Gerhard Bruyns

Prof. dr. ir. Gerhard Bruyns is Associate Professor, Associate Dean of Academic Programs, and Director of the Research Postgraduate Program (PhD) at the School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He holds a PhD and MSc in Urbanism from TU Delft, and a cum laude BArch from the University of Pretoria. He has taught architecture and urbanism in Europe, South Africa, South America, and Asia. He is registered with the Dutch Architecture Register (Urbanism) and has served on a range of international accreditation bodies. He was Assistant to the General Reporter and Convener of the 2014 UIA International Student Competition. He currently contributes as executive team member to IFOU, as Associate Editor of Design Studies, and Editor-in-Chief of Cubic Journal. His research focuses on spatial compression and density in super-tall environments, and has published on topics as design commons, volumetric morphology and hyper compression with Springer, Routledge and Nai010 publishers.
