Carla is a lecturer and researcher on information design at The Federal University of ParanĂ¡-UFPR (Brazil), with focus on health and education. She is the head of the Laboratory of Information Design Systems, and of the Research Group Digital & Information Design, member of the Health, Innovation, Technology & Education Research Group, and the Health Design Network-HDN (Switzerland). Carla is associate editor of the Information Design Journal (Holland), its chief editor from 2014 to 2020, member of the editorial board of the Journal of Visual Literacy (USA) and of the InfoDesign Journal (Brazil), of which she was co-founder (2004) and co-chief editor (2004-2014). She was co-founded of the Brazilian Society of Information Design (2002), and a member of their Scientific Council, serving twice as their president. She was the leader of the Community Engagement Working Group of the Future of Design Education Initiative (2022-2023 | futureofdesigneducation.org). Carla has acted as consultant for the Brazilian Ministry of Health (Open University of the Unified Health System of Brazil and the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance/ANVISA), IDEC-Brazilian Institute of Consumer Protection, and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), participating in the development of propositions, and implementation of health policies.
