Don Norman Design Award (DNDA) acknowledges and honors exceptional visionaries while seeking to identify emerging talent globally. A distinguished jury committee evaluates each submission based on its merits and assigns a score accordingly. We are proud to present the DNDA 2024 Laureates below.
DNDA awards fall into three categories:
- Projects by early career practitioners
This is a contest, with two levels of awards: Excellence and Promising. In DNDA24, three groups received the award of Excellence and two groups were Promising. - Educational groups that are recognized for education in Humanity-Centered Design (HCD+)
This is not a contest. All groups that show evidence of successful education by showing that graduates are now involved in HCD+ projects are recognized. - Special Recognition
During the judging, we encountered a number of projects that were deemed excellent, but that did not fit the categories of early career or education. We decided to give them special recognition.
Entries that were Finalists or Short-Listed
In addition to these three categories, we recognize the excellence and hard work of those who did not receive awards or special recognition: Those who made it to our Final list of projects and Educational groups (Finalists), and then, from the finalists, those who made it to the very short-list of projects under consideration for an award. Only seven projects were on the short list, from which five received awards. The two remaining short-listed candidates were truly excellent, above all other applicants, but not quite at the level for an award.
