Stanford Data Ocean: Enable Underserved Communities to Achieve Improved Health Through Accessible Digital Biomedical Education

This is an education software project that serves underprivileged and underserved students in the United States and in low- and mid-income countries globally. This project is a software. It provides free Stanford Precision Medicine certificate programs to underprivileged students all over the world, designed for underprivileged and underserved students who want to break into Precision Medicine, but are lacking the socio-economic or educational resources. Students are from the United States, and low- and mid-income countries, such as Rwanda, Ghana, Congo, Colombia, Chile, Philippines, Pakistan, India, and Iran. In the U.S., students are from low-income states traditionally under-funded by NIH for biomedical education, such as South Dakota, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Alabama.

The qualitative and quantitative data indicates the programs’ high satisfaction and promising impact. . We will cultivate a wide network of mentors and mentees to offer career guidance, project skills, and develop good work ethics, social and emotional intelligence.. We will also train the mentees to become mentors (Goal 2). Fostering such a community that connects students of similar value and ambition will help promote our programs further. We aim to increase awareness and attract more professionals to support young scientists globally, especially in low and mid-income regions.
